Vice President JD Vance delivered a broad defense of President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda during his keynote address at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas Thursday, arguing that the administration has taken steps to put American workers and families ahead of corporate and government interests.

Vance criticized companies that move jobs overseas and said previous administrations had rewarded businesses for doing so.

“Corporations shipped jobs overseas and were rewarded by Washington,” Vance said. “Donald Trump is the FIRST president in my lifetime to crack down on people shipping our jobs overseas and fight for American businesses and American workers for a change!”

Vance also pointed to the administration’s tax legislation, highlighting provisions affecting Social Security benefits, tips and overtime. The 2025 tax law created new federal income-tax deductions for qualified tips and overtime and a deduction for certain Social Security income.

“It’s not rocket science,” Vance said. “We’ve ended taxes on social security. We’ve ended taxes on tips and we’ve ended taxes on overtime.”

The vice president also touted the administration’s approach to crime and law enforcement, saying, “We’ve seen the largest drop of violent crime in the history of the United States of America because we back the police and throw the bad guys in prison.” That was presented by Vance as an administration accomplishment.

On housing, Vance said the administration was moving against large corporate investors purchasing residential properties.

“We have banned corporate tycoons from buying up our housing stock because we hold the simple belief that American homes ought to go to the American people,” he said.

Vance also highlighted the administration’s health-care policies, crediting Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with challenging the pharmaceutical industry.

“And this is my favorite, under the leadership of the president and Bobby Kennedy,” Vance said. “We did what generations of Democrat politicians promised but failed to do. We actually took on big pharma and lower drug costs for all of our citizens!”

Vance’s speech tied the administration’s policies to a broader argument that Republicans are delivering on economic and domestic priorities as the party heads into the November midterm elections. The convention in Dallas brought Republican officials, administration figures and congressional candidates together for two days of speeches and political organizing.
