CNN has postponed the release of its documentary Imperial Presidency, which had been scheduled to air this week, following a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.

Journalist Fareed Zakaria announced the delay in a post on X, stating that the documentary would air at a later date, with updated scheduling to be announced.

The decision comes after an armed suspect opened fire near a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night while President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other senior officials were attending the annual event. Authorities said the suspect attempted to move toward the main ballroom before being stopped by law enforcement, prompting a rapid evacuation of attendees.

At least one Secret Service agent was struck during the incident but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to recover. The suspect was taken into custody, and federal authorities are continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.

The documentary, Imperial Presidency, is expected to examine executive power in the United States, including debates over the scope and limits of presidential authority in modern administrations.

CNN has not provided further explanation for the postponement beyond the scheduling update. The delay comes amid heightened scrutiny of political rhetoric, media coverage, and public discourse following the incident, as officials assess security measures and broader concerns tied to high-profile political events.

The shooting has also prompted renewed discussion in Washington about safety protocols and the tone of political debate, particularly as national attention remains focused on the implications of the attack and ongoing investigations.
