Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli delivered a stunning victory in the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, charging from 19th on the grid to win at Monza and extend his Formula 1 championship lead. The 20-year-old Italian passed teammate George Russell with three laps remaining to secure the win by 3.857 seconds.

Antonelli started at the back after taking an engine penalty but quickly advanced through the field. A red flag followed Charles Leclerc's heavy crash at Parabolica early in the race, and Antonelli benefited from a virtual safety car pit stop for fresh tires that allowed him to close the gap. He overtook Russell cleanly on the run to Ascari on lap 51.

The victory marked the first time an Italian driver has won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966. It was Antonelli's seventh win of the season and the second-farthest recovery to victory in F1 history, behind only John Watson's 1983 triumph from 22nd.

"I did not expect," Antonelli said after the race. "Unbelievable. I am so happy, I could never imagine being here today."

Max Verstappen finished third for Red Bull, ahead of the McLaren duo of Lando Norris in fourth and Oscar Piastri in fifth. Lewis Hamilton placed sixth in the other Ferrari. Pierre Gasly started from pole but finished seventh.

The result left Antonelli with a 66-point lead over Russell in the drivers' championship after 13 rounds. Mercedes achieved a one-two finish, highlighting the team's strong pace at the Temple of Speed.

Fans at Monza, many of whom typically support Ferrari, celebrated the home hero despite his Mercedes colors. The race featured multiple incidents and strategic battles that underscored Antonelli's pace and composure under pressure.
