Pennsylvania Rep. Chris Deluzio, a second-term Democrat from western Pennsylvania, said Sunday that he has not ruled out challenging Sen. John Fetterman in the 2028 Democratic Senate primary.

“I might, I haven’t decided that,” Deluzio said during an appearance on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday.” He said his current priority is helping Pennsylvania Democrats in the November midterm elections, including efforts to expand the party’s majorities in the state House and Senate.

Deluzio also criticized Fetterman over what he described as the senator’s absence from the campaign trail.

“John Fetterman’s nowhere to be seen on the campaign trail,” Deluzio said. “I don’t think there’s any Democrat in Pennsylvania who wants him campaigning with them, even if he wouldn’t show up.”

Deluzio added that he would focus on the midterms before deciding what to do about 2028.

The comments come after Deluzio publicly criticized Fetterman following a Wall Street Journal report examining the senator’s engagement with constituents and legislative responsibilities. Deluzio wrote on X that Fetterman “has no sense of duty” and said Pennsylvania Democrats would “do something about it in 2028.”

Fetterman has also faced criticism from some Democrats over his positions on Israel and other foreign-policy issues, as well as instances in which his Senate votes have differed from the Democratic caucus. Fetterman has defended his record and rejected recent criticism of his performance in office.

Deluzio is not the only Pennsylvania Democrat whose name has been discussed in connection with the 2028 Senate race. Rep. Brendan Boyle has also criticized Fetterman, while other potential Democratic contenders have been mentioned in recent reporting.

Fetterman was elected to the Senate in 2022 and is eligible to seek a second term in 2028. For now, Deluzio has not formally entered the race, leaving it open whether the growing intraparty dispute will develop into a primary challenge.
