Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles lost his party's nomination for Tennessee's Fifth Congressional District in the primary election held tonight.

Former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher defeated Ogles, according to projections from NBC News and other outlets reporting early results.

The race featured a single Republican challenger after redistricting shifted the district boundaries to include more rural and agricultural counties in Middle Tennessee. Hatcher, who served as agriculture commissioner under Gov. Bill Lee, positioned his campaign around those changes and his background in state government.

Ogles, first elected in 2022, had received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. He faced questions about fundraising and attendance during the campaign cycle. His campaign reported limited cash reserves heading into the final weeks.

Hatcher will now face the Democratic nominee in November's general election for the seat.

Ogles had won a contested primary in 2024 against a Nashville-area challenger before securing reelection that year.
