New York Knicks owner James Dolan has become the state's largest Republican donor this election cycle by directing substantial funds toward GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman.

Dolan, his company, and family members donated $1.4 million in 2026 to committees supporting Blakeman, the Nassau County executive challenging Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. The family also contributed $970,000 to the Nassau County Republican Committee and $108,000 directly to Blakeman's campaign.

These contributions mark a shift from Dolan's earlier support for Hochul. Dolan and some family members backed the Democratic governor during her 2022 campaign.

Dolan-linked super PACs have added millions more in support of Blakeman, including over $1 million spent by the "Strong and Safe New York" PAC on digital ads attacking Hochul. One recent spot, titled "Get Outta Town," criticizes the governor's record on crime and taxes.

Blakeman's campaign has raised roughly $11 million overall, with the Nassau GOP transferring more than $2 million to his effort. The infusion from the Dolans provides key backing at a time when other major Republican donors have reduced their involvement.

The New York gubernatorial race remains competitive, with Blakeman positioning himself as a conservative alternative focused on public safety and economic issues. Hochul has emphasized her record on abortion rights and infrastructure.

Dolan's donations come through legal channels under New York campaign finance rules, which allow significant contributions to party committees. The moves align with broader patterns of business donors adjusting strategies ahead of the November election.
