Sen. Mark Warner is mourning the death of his daughter, Madison Warner, who died at age 36 after a long health struggle, according to a statement released Monday and reported by ABC affiliate WJLA.

Warner said his daughter had battled juvenile diabetes along with other ongoing medical complications for many years. In a family statement, he described her as someone who brought love and joy into their lives, adding that her passing has left a profound and lasting loss for the family.

“She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void,” the statement read, while also thanking friends and relatives for their support during what the family described as a difficult period. The senator’s office requested privacy as the family grieves.

Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, also have two other daughters, Gillian and Eliza, according to reports.

No additional details regarding services or the timeline of her illness were immediately released.
