President Donald Trump announced a major pharmaceutical investment in Ohio, saying Bayer will build a new $2.2 billion manufacturing campus near Columbus that is expected to create thousands of jobs.

Trump described the project as a major victory for American manufacturing as his administration continues pushing pharmaceutical companies to increase production inside the United States.

The planned campus is expected to support jobs across advanced manufacturing, scientific research, construction and other fields. The investment would also expand Bayer’s U.S. manufacturing footprint and add pharmaceutical production capacity in Ohio.

Trump credited his administration’s pharmaceutical tariff policies for encouraging companies to move more investment and production into the United States. He said those policies have helped generate more than $600 billion in new pharmaceutical investments and have contributed to lower prices under the administration’s most-favored-nation, or MFN, drug pricing efforts.

“Build in America, hire American workers, and price drugs for American patients fairly, or pay,” Trump said while touting the announcement.

The Bayer project comes as the Trump administration has made reshoring pharmaceutical manufacturing a major economic and national-security priority. The administration has argued that relying heavily on foreign production for critical medicines leaves the United States vulnerable to supply disruptions and gives other countries too much control over essential products.

Bayer’s investment adds to a series of major corporate commitments that Trump has highlighted as evidence that companies are responding to pressure to expand domestic production.

Trump celebrated the announcement while traveling to Ohio, calling it “HUGE NEWS FOR OHIO” and praising the state for attracting the large-scale investment.

The project represents a significant potential economic boost for the Columbus area, with thousands of jobs tied to the campus and additional economic activity expected from construction, suppliers, and related businesses.
