Cam York fired a shot from the blue line that found its way through traffic and past Pittsburgh goaltender Arturs Silovs at 17:32 into overtime, giving the Philadelphia Flyers a 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Wednesday night.

The victory completed a 4-2 series win for the Flyers, who led 3-0 before dropping the next two games. It marked Philadelphia's first playoff series victory since 2020 and sends them into the second round against the top-seeded Carolina Hurricanes, who swept the Ottawa Senators.

Dan Vladar was sensational in net for the Flyers, stopping all 42 shots he faced for his second shutout of the series. Silovs made 31 saves on 32 shots for Pittsburgh, but it was not enough to force a decisive Game 7.

The game remained scoreless through regulation despite the Penguins outshooting Philadelphia 42-32. Pittsburgh had several quality chances, including posts hit by Christian Dvorak and Egor Chinakhov, but Vladar stood tall. Matvei Michkov, returning after being scratched in Game 5, had a breakaway denied by Silovs and picked up the primary assist on York's winner, with Noah Cates getting the secondary.

"Just tried to put it there," York said. "We knew that it was going to be a greasy one. It felt really good to see that one go in." He added, "So happy for the guys in that room. We battled all year long for this position."

Flyers coach Rick Tocchet praised his team's resilience after fending off a Penguins rally. The Penguins, led by Sidney Crosby, aimed to become just the fifth team in NHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit but fell short.

York also lauded Vladar: "He has been our backbone all year. When he's that confident, that poised, it just bleeds through the room. He has been our MVP this year." Vladar was steady throughout the series, allowing just 10 goals across six games.

Sean Couturier provided veteran leadership for Philadelphia, exemplifying playoff hockey in a tightly contested matchup. The Flyers' power play went 0-for-2 in the game and struggled overall at 2-for-17 in the series.

Philadelphia now prepares for the Hurricanes, against whom they split regular-season meetings, all going beyond regulation. The second-round schedule is yet to be announced. The Flyers' advancement under Tocchet in his first season with the club highlights their gritty postseason push.
