The Oklahoma State Cowboys stunned No. 6 Oregon 39-31 on Saturday in Stillwater, handing the Ducks their first loss of the 2026 season and giving new Cowboys head coach Eric Morris a signature victory in just his second game.

Oklahoma State entered the matchup looking to rebound from a disappointing 24-10 loss to in-state rival Tulsa in Morris’ debut. The Cowboys turned the page quickly, however, putting together a 554-yard offensive performance against an Oregon defense that had been expected to control the game.

Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 102 yards and another score. Caleb Hawkins added 110 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Wyatt Young recorded 121 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Oregon entered Stillwater ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25 after falling from No. 2 following a narrow 34-27 victory over Boise State in its season opener. Boise State led Oregon for much of the first half before the Ducks rallied to escape with the seven-point win.

The Cowboys took advantage of the opportunity Saturday, taking control in the second quarter and continuing to answer Oregon throughout the second half. Oregon tied the game at 30 early in the fourth quarter, but Mestemaker answered with a 10-yard touchdown run before Oklahoma State added a field goal to extend its lead.

The victory was especially significant given Oklahoma State’s circumstances entering the game. The Cowboys had lost to Tulsa the previous week and were facing a nationally ranked Oregon team that had won its opener. Oklahoma State's win also ended a 10-game losing streak against FBS opponents ranked in the AP Top 10, according to the historical record cited for the matchup.

The win gives Oklahoma State an early signature victory under Morris and marks one of the program’s most notable home victories in recent years.

Oklahoma Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Mazzei was in attendance at Boone Pickens Stadium for the game, he announced on X.
