NASA and the National Football League are teaming up to bring flyovers, astronaut appearances, and fan activities to select NFL games across the country as part of NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman’s Inspiration Tour.

“This is the first season NASA is taking part in flyovers at NFL games, bringing the excitement of America’s space program directly to fans across the country,” Isaacman said.

The first scheduled appearance is Sunday, when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. ET. NASA also plans to participate at games between the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints on Sept. 20, the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 4, and the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns on Oct. 11. Additional dates could be added.

NASA aircraft will conduct flyovers at some of the games. The agency’s aircraft are used for high-speed testing, high-altitude research, astronaut training, and other missions. NASA said regular flights also help maintain the aircraft while demonstrating technologies that could eventually be used in commercial aviation.

The partnership is part of the Inspiration Tour, which is connecting NASA with universities, private industry and public-sector organizations across the country. Isaacman said the effort comes as NASA works toward returning astronauts to the Moon, developing a Moon Base and advancing new space and aeronautics technologies.

The tour will conclude Nov. 7-8 with MAX POWER, a public air and space exposition at and near NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The event will showcase next-generation aircraft, spacecraft, autonomous vehicles, and other technologies as part of celebrations surrounding America’s 250th anniversary.
