Republican Rep. Brandon Gill has won reelection in Texas’ 26th Congressional District, defeating Democrat Steven Shook and Libertarian Phil Gray to secure another term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Gill, first elected to Congress in 2024, represents a district covering much of Denton County, southern Wise County and all of Cooke County. The 31-year-old Republican has become a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump’s agenda, emphasizing border security, immigration enforcement, tax relief and conservative priorities in Congress.
Before entering Congress, Gill graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in economics and history. He has focused much of his congressional work on immigration and national policy, including efforts to codify Trump administration border policies. Gill has also drawn national attention for his outspoken positions on issues involving Islam, national security and federal government spending.
Shook, a healthcare provider who works with critically ill and injured patients, secured the Democratic nomination after defeating Ernest Lineberger III in the March primary. His campaign sought to challenge Gill on healthcare and the direction of federal policy. Gray represented the Libertarian Party on the November ballot, giving voters a third option in the contest.
The campaign's financial disparity was substantial. Federal Election Commission filings through October 14 showed Gill's campaign had raised nearly $7.94 million and held approximately $2.09 million in cash. Shook had raised roughly $35,800 and reported about $5,600 in cash on hand. The race was rated Solid Republican by the Cook Political Report and Safe Republican by Decision Desk HQ.
Gill's victory continues the Republican Party's long-standing hold on the district. He won his first congressional election in 2024 with approximately 62% of the vote, defeating Democrat Ernest Lineberger III. His reelection ensures that North Texas will continue to have a Republican representative in the 120th Congress.
