President Donald Trump is calling on Senate Republicans to terminate the legislative filibuster, arguing that Democrats could use its removal to advance statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., and gain additional seats in Congress.

“If Senate Republicans don’t TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, the Dumocrats will, and I will be, despite how well our Party is doing, the last Republican President!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Trump argued that Democrats would seek to add Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., as states, giving them additional representation in Congress and the Electoral College. “The Dumocrats will vote in Puerto Rico (4% Republican Vote), and Washington, D.C. (3% Republican Vote), pick up 4 Senators, 8 Congressmen/women, tremendous numbers of Popular and Electoral College Votes,” he wrote.

He also raised concerns about election administration, writing that Democrats would gain “control of the Voting Mechanisms and Systems, both Legal and otherwise, throughout the United States.”

Trump concluded his warning by arguing that the changes could permanently alter the political landscape. “It will be impossible for Republicans to ever win an Election again. In other words, it will be THE END OF AMERICA!” he wrote before signing the message, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
