No. 3 Georgia defeated No. 17 Florida 27-8 on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Bulldogs improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference while handing the Gators their third loss of the season.
The game began with Georgia asserting control on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs' defense forced turnovers on Florida's first two possessions, setting an aggressive tone that the Gators never overcame. Those early mistakes led directly to points as Georgia built a commanding lead before halftime.
By the end of the first half, Georgia had scored 24 unanswered points. Linebacker Chris Cole's 66-yard fumble return for a touchdown with under 30 seconds remaining capped a dominant stretch. Running backs Nate Frazier and Bo Walker each punched in 1-yard touchdown runs, showcasing the team's ground attack that accumulated 217 yards on 42 carries. Florida managed only 48 rushing yards all day.
Georgia added two field goals from kicker Peyton Woodring in the second half to reach the final margin. The Bulldogs outgained Florida 318-246 in total yards while limiting the Gators to their lowest point total of the season in the rivalry.
Florida avoided a shutout when Tramell Jones Jr. scored on a 2-yard run late in the fourth quarter and connected on a two-point conversion pass. The Gators finished 5-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play after failing to build on their recent upset of Texas.
The matchup marked the first time the annual rivalry was played in Atlanta, a change prompted by renovations at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. A sellout crowd of 72,541 attended the game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart improved to 9-2 against Florida in his tenure. The Bulldogs have now won six straight games in the series. The victory allowed Georgia to move past its narrow 27-24 loss to Auburn two weeks earlier and reestablish momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
