Veteran sports broadcaster Joe Buck is close to finalizing a deal to host a sports-focused version of Jeopardy! that would air across ESPN platforms.

The program, expected to be titled “ESPN Jeopardy!,” would mark a new spinoff of the long-running quiz show franchise, which is owned and produced by Sony. Sources indicate the show is likely to stream on Hulu and Disney+, with potential distribution on ABC and other ESPN-related platforms.

The planned format is expected to feature celebrity contestants, including ESPN personalities, rather than members of the general public. The approach would differentiate it from traditional versions of the show while aligning it more closely with network talent and sports media branding.

Buck brings extensive experience to the role, having served as a lead play-by-play announcer for major sporting events, including multiple Super Bowls and World Series broadcasts. He currently calls “Monday Night Football” games for ESPN and previously guest-hosted “Jeopardy!” in 2021 following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek.

The new project would not be the franchise’s first attempt at a sports-themed adaptation. “Sports Jeopardy!,” hosted by Dan Patrick, aired from 2014 to 2016 on Crackle, while ESPN has also experimented with sports trivia programming in the past.

The reported deal comes as media companies continue expanding established intellectual property into new formats and distribution channels, particularly across streaming platforms. A sports-centric version of “Jeopardy!” could tap into an existing audience of sports fans while leveraging the brand recognition of the original show.

No official announcement has been made, and final details, including release timing and distribution plans, remain subject to confirmation.
