Former North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is weighing in on the firestorm surrounding Good Good Golf, criticizing the response to a controversial advertisement that has sent one of golf’s biggest media brands into crisis. Robinson has labeled Callaway as "cowards" for their response.
The ad showed Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark shoving female golfer Alexis Miestowski to the ground as part of a skit promoting a Callaway driver. The corporate reaction to the ill-advised joke has been extraordinary: Callaway severed its partnership with Good Good, major retailers pulled merchandise, Golf Channel canceled a planned show, and Good Good withdrew as title sponsor of an upcoming PGA Tour event.
Robinson’s criticism comes as conservatives increasingly question a corporate culture in which a bad joke can quickly become an existential threat to a company. Good Good made a regrettable ad. Whether that warranted a full-scale campaign of corporate excommunication is a different question, and it's one Robinson is willing to ask.
