The Kentucky Wildcats defeated No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21 at Kyle Field on Saturday, handing the Aggies their first loss of the season and opening SEC play with a major road victory.

The teams went into halftime tied 7-7 before Kentucky's offense erupted in the third quarter. Quarterback Kenny Minchey connected with Kenny Darby for a 42-yard touchdown before running back C.J. Baxter added two rushing touchdowns to give the Wildcats a 28-7 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Baxter finished with 89 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Minchey completed 14 of 18 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Kentucky finished with 411 total yards and did not commit a turnover.

Texas A&M attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Marcel Reed rushed for a touchdown before connecting with Mario Riley for another score, cutting Kentucky's lead to 31-21 with 3:49 remaining.

The Aggies could not complete the comeback, however, as Kentucky's defense held Texas A&M scoreless over the final minutes. Reed finished with 236 passing yards, one passing touchdown and two interceptions as Texas A&M fell to Kentucky for the first time since 1953.

For Kentucky, the victory moves the Wildcats to 1-1 in SEC play after opening conference competition with a loss to Alabama. The road win also gives Kentucky an early conference victory against a ranked opponent as the Wildcats continue through their SEC schedule.

For Texas A&M, the loss drops the Aggies to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in SEC play. After opening the season with two decisive victories, Texas A&M will now enter the rest of its conference schedule looking to recover from its first loss and avoid falling further behind in the SEC standings.
