British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos is in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in Louisiana following his arrest Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed the detention Friday. Yiannopoulos, a 41-year-old UK citizen, entered the United States legally in May 2019 but overstayed his visa. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after he failed to appear for a hearing.

ICE records list him in custody, with reports indicating he is being held at a facility in the Alexandria area of Louisiana. Officials have not released further details on his scheduled removal.

Yiannopoulos was in the New Orleans area ahead of a scheduled concert by Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. He previously served as a political advisor and chief of staff to the rapper during his 2024 presidential bid.

The commentator rose to prominence as an editor at Breitbart News and an early supporter of President Donald Trump in 2016. He later faced professional setbacks and worked briefly as an intern for former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Yiannopoulos has publicly advocated for strict immigration enforcement in recent years. In a 2025 social media post, he called for ICE checkpoints in California and immediate deportation of those unable to prove legal status.

Conservative activist Laura Loomer claimed credit for bringing his immigration status to authorities' attention. She alleged he had been living in the country illegally while working in conservative circles.

DHS stated that Yiannopoulos chose to overstay in violation of U.S. law. The agency emphasized ongoing efforts to enforce immigration rules against those present illegally.

Neither Yiannopoulos nor his representatives have issued a public statement on the detention as of Friday afternoon.
