Republican Michele Tafoya and Democrat Peggy Flanagan are tied at 42% in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race, according to a new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll conducted Sept. 9-14 among 654 likely voters. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 4.4 percentage points.

The poll also found 12% of likely voters undecided, while 4% backed other candidates. The result represents a change from SurveyUSA's August poll, which showed Flanagan at 46% and Tafoya at 41%.

Tafoya, a former television sports broadcaster, is the Republican nominee. Flanagan, Minnesota's lieutenant governor, is the Democratic nominee for the open Senate seat.

The race is for the seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Tina Smith, who is not seeking reelection. Minnesota voters will choose between the candidates in the Nov. 3 general election.

The latest survey provides a snapshot of the race among likely voters but remains subject to the poll's margin of error. Other recent surveys have produced different results, including a Sept. 8-10 Quantus Insights poll that showed Flanagan leading Tafoya 48% to 44%.
