The Trump administration has offered former Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Katie Zacharia the position of White House press secretary, according to a report published Friday. President Donald Trump later posted on Truth Social Friday afternoon officially announcing the appointment.

Zacharia, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump and frequent Fox News guest, currently works for Fix California, a conservative organization led by longtime Trump ally Richard Grenell. The group promotes conservative policies in California, a state dominated by Democrats.
Zacharia will replace Karoline Leavitt, who recently left the White House to become a contributor to Fox News. Zacharia previously served approximately three months at the Department of Homeland Security in early 2026. She joined the department under then-Secretary Kristi Noem but departed after Sen. Markwayne Mullin took over the agency.
During her time at DHS, Zacharia reportedly developed close relationships with Noem and Corey Lewandowski, Noem’s senior adviser. Her departure came as the department underwent a leadership transition.
Zacharia told Just the News that the demanding commute between California and Washington had taken a toll on her family and contributed to her decision to leave the department. A mother of four, she cited the challenges of balancing the job with her family responsibilities.
The appointment brings Zacharia from conservative advocacy work back into federal government service, placing her at the center of the administration’s daily communications with the press.
When Zacharia takes the role, she will inherit one of the administration’s most visible positions, serving as a principal spokesperson for Trump and facing reporters during White House briefings.
