Russian ballistic missiles and drones struck Kyiv overnight Tuesday, killing five people and injuring dozens more in the latest escalation of the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the attack caused fires across multiple districts, damaging at least 14 high-rise buildings along with a dorm, a school, a clinic, warehouses, and other sites. Two of the deaths occurred in a strike on a warehouse. The state emergency services said 35 people were injured in the capital.

The assault resumed after a brief halt during the visit of U.S. peace negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who left Kyiv on Sunday following talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The Trump administration has renewed efforts to end the more than four-year war.

Explosions continued into Tuesday afternoon as Russia targeted the city with jet-powered drones. A Russian drone also partially destroyed a Ukrainian TV channel building, according to Zelenskiy.

Ukraine has appealed to allies for additional interceptor missiles amid stepped-up long-range strikes by both sides. The attack highlights the persistent threat to civilian areas despite diplomatic overtures.

Earlier reports from the conflict have documented similar Russian strikes on infrastructure and populated centers, underscoring the challenges in achieving a lasting ceasefire.
