President Donald Trump will deliver his closing midterm election remarks Monday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington.

The White House confirmed the event after Trump signaled his plans over the weekend while returning from campaign stops. He told reporters the location would allow him to highlight improvements to the site.

Trump said speaking there would "show how beautiful it is." The Reflecting Pool project began in April when the president directed changes to its color and lining. Initial estimates placed costs at about $1.5 million with completion before Independence Day.

Work finished several months behind schedule at a cost exceeding $15 million. Issues including algae blooms and sections of peeling liner drew attention after the redesign.

The speech marks a departure from the typical final-week push into battleground states. Trump instead chose the National Mall landmark on the eve of Election Day.

Republicans are seeking to maintain congressional majorities in Tuesday's midterms. Trump has spent recent weeks holding rallies for GOP candidates across the country.

The Reflecting Pool event comes as the administration continues efforts to maintain and improve federal properties in the capital.
